Direct thermal printing is an old technology originally designed for low cost copiers and fax machines. It has since been transformed into a highly successful technology for bar coding. Direct thermal printing uses heat sensitive paper labels to produce black text, barcodes and images, the print typically lasts 6 - 12 months before fading unless exposed to direct sunlight. Direct thermal printing is an excellent choice for many bar code labeling applications. Direct thermal printers provide simplicity and environmental economy (recyclable materials are also available). Direct thermal printers are simple to operate compared to most other print technologies with no ribbons or toners to replenish and label loading is a very simple procedure.
Adhesive Types:
- Permanent – Standard adhesive which will stick to most surfaces and can not be removed
- Removable – Sticks to the surface and can be removed when needed
- Freezer – Used for items that are being applied or stored in a freezer environment
- High Tack – For applications that require a stronger permanent adhesive
